UFC 108: Is It Going To Be Lackluster?

UFC 108 will be held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, January 2nd, which is the day of this post. The fights will start in around 3 hours from now. I thought I might as well give my thoughts on what some fans consider to be a lackluster PPV with price tag of 60$.
Firstly, I'd like to say with most UFC shows you get what you pay for and I say that with all honesty. But like all PPVs where there is no championship bout on the line, fans tend to feel a bit disappointed. Of course we can't have title fights each PPV but a serious title contender fight with two amazing fighters would be great. Most people will say hey! isn't that what Evans vs Silva is? No not really, it might put one of them over the other to get in line for shot vs whomever is the champion ( Machida is already facing Shogun again later this year) but lets be serious from now and then so much will happen. Just an example go back a few months, everybody was expecting Carwin/Cain to determine a contender for Lesnar. A few months after, they are not even fighting each other. Carwin gets a direct go ahead vs Lesnar. A few months after that, oh no another change, Lesnar has constant injuries, infections, Carwin gets to face probably Frank Mir(who impressively finishes of Kongo) for an interim title or maybe even the real title if Lesnar's injury woes continue. In a matter of months the heavyweight contention changed so much nobody knew who was going to fight who, what was going to happen the champion etc.. These fights have little effect in the MMA Pound For Pound rankings.
The main event in this card is probably one of the best, but there are a few other fights that catch the eye. Yvel vs Dos Santos, Yvel making his UFC debut and the explosive Paul Daley vs the submission wizard Mclovin Dustin Hazelett. A few good fights to watch out for but not the most impressive card the UFC and Joe Silva have put on in recent months. The Yvel/Santos fight might be an explosive battle of the two heavyweights and might change the order in the Heavyweight division. Daley could put yet another brutal performance in his second UFC fight but will have to wary of Dustin's ground game, an area where the Semtex has had problems with. (Jake Shield fight).
On paper it might not be the most impressive UFC card but like all MMA events it will be the moment that makes the fight and the unpredictability of it. Also a think to note will UFC boss Dana White's blog on what he thinks of the fight, as he might spoil some beans on the upcoming match ups etc... They might also present Gomi, former pride champion, to the UFC fans in the event.
For some this will be a buy, for others just another event to watch in the internet.
